Zoe's Story

by her parents, Justin and Jessica Vinson

My husband and I rescued our first dog (BC/Cattle Dog Mix), Maximus, two years ago from the Memphis Humane Society. He is a high energy dog who loves agility, flyball, people, and dogs.

We found out when Max turned 2 years old that he needed a little sister for him to play with, and my husband and I wanted a little girl dog. So we began looking on the internet intending on rescuing a dog since that was VERY important to us. We also wanted a loving dog with a lot of energy to keep up with her big brother, Max.

I found the East TN Border Collie rescue group and began browsing the pictures on their site. I spotted the picture of Zoe and instantly fell in love. I showed my husband and emailed all my friends to go see her picture. Over the Christmas holidays my husband, Maximus, and I were going to visit my family in Knoxville and called Suzanne to see if we could at least come look at her.

Zoe was absolutely beautiful and Maximus, my husband, and myself all fell in love with her.

What happy pals!

We thought it all over on the way home and just knew we wanted her, but we weren't the only family that wanted her. We had to wait to hear back from Suzanne if we were the family of choice.

About one week later, we received a call from Suzanne that Zoe, now named Smudge, was ours. We immediately planned a trip from our home in Memphis to pick her up that next weekend from Oliver Springs. Once she got to our home in Memphis, she fit right in. She and Max would play together all day and cuddle up at night. She has been such a wonderful addition to our family. She is spoiled rotten by both her paternal and maternal human grandparents. Also, we have started pre-agility obedience and the beginnings of flyball (targeting, fetch work with a tennis ball, etc.) She is a quick learner and loves to play. She will be attending (not participating, of course) her first flyball tournament March 14-16, 2003, where she will cheer on her big brother Max.
