Shelby
Back to Adoptables
Shelby is a gorgeous, petite 4 year old purebred border collie. She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and is on heartworm preventative, Frontline and is microchipped.
Shelby comes from strong herding lines and has strong herding instinct. She would be great for someone wanting to train her for herding but should not be around livestock unsupervised. Shelby was purchased as a puppy and was put in a pen or allowed to roam unsupervised. She has been in her foster home for a month and has learned that having structure, a schedule, attention and training is a good thing. She is now crate trained, house trained and leash trained. Shelby loves to learn new things and is working on basic obedience. She’s a fast learner.
Shelby is a high-energy girl and needs a family/person that can provide a lot of mental stimulation and exercise. Shelby must have a job of some sort. She would be great at agility or flyball and would be awesome at tracking. Shelby’s adopters need to be willing to continue to take her to training classes of some sort after she settles into her new home.
Shelby is learning to play with toys and loves fleece, squeaky toys to fetch and tug. She has learned to retrieve in her foster home but prefers soft toys to balls so far. She loves to jump up in the air to show her excitement but has learned not to jump on people. Shelby gets along well with other dogs, loves all people including children and is very good with the cats in her foster home. She loves to go on long leash walks and would be a good running partner.
Shelby is a lovely and very loving, sweet girl that deserves a good life after early years of neglect. Shelby requires a secure fence due to her early experience of being able to crawl under or through fences to roam in her previous home. Her foster home has secure fences and, at first, Shelby was very surprised and disappointed to find she couldn’t get through them to explore but has accepted it and seems much happier for the boundaries. Like many border collies, Shelby will invent her own list of “things to do” when she isn’t given enough exercise and mental stimulation. Once that’s taken care of she’s pretty easy to live with. She loves to run and is very fast so needs a safely fenced area to run and play with her people.

Please note that as a policy ETBCR does not place puppies in families with children under 6 years of age, as border collies and border collie mixes can be very reactive to the movements of small children.
Prior to or upon adoption, all dogs in our rescue program are spayed/neutered (there are NO exceptions), fully vaccinated, heartworm negative, started on heartworm prevention, treated with flea and tick preventive, microchipped, and temperament tested. We also strive to crate and house train each dog before placement.
