Gertie

Gertie, Gertie, Gertie! What a lucky girl Miss Gertie is. This adorable Border Collie mix came to the animal shelter as a stray, and her family didn’t come looking for her. The shelter staff fell in love with Gertie, and ETBCR wanted to help Gertie find a forever family that will take great care of her and love her as much as she deserves to be loved and cared for, so she is now in rescue.

We think Gertie is about 5 years old, she is spayed and up to date on vaccinations, has tested heartworm negative, and has a microchip. She just had a thorough dental cleaning and a couple of extractions, too, so now she has shiny white teeth and a healthy mouth!

Gertie is a happy-go-lucky sweetheart who bonds quickly and loves being with her human. She does well with the dog and mellow cat in her foster home, mostly ignoring them. She walks well on leash alone and with another dog and shows how delighted she is to go outside with a happy dance!

She is crate trained and working on housetraining. When she needs to go out, she’ll stare intently at whoever she thinks will take her out. Woe to the person who doesn’t move fast enough!

Gertie is a great passenger in the car! We do recommend a seatbelt because she’ll climb from the backseat to the front in a hurry. She is wonderfully patient with grooming; she’ll lean into the de-furminator and allow people to check her teeth without fuss.

This sweet girl needs to lose some weight, so she would be a great exercise partner. Gertie has a back leg that may have had an old injury, but she doesn’t seem to be in any pain and it doesn’t seem to cause her any problems. Losing weight will help with that leg immensely. Looking for a travel companion that can help you keep in shape? It wouldn’t get any better than Gertie! She is always smiling and has a tail wag for everyone. Gertie’s disposition is lovely and she is very sweet.

Please note that as a policy ETBCR does not place puppies in families with children under 6 years of age, as border collies and border collie mixes can be very reactive to the movements of small children.

Prior to or upon adoption, all dogs in our rescue program are spayed/neutered (there are NO exceptions), fully vaccinated, heartworm negative, started on heartworm prevention, treated with flea and tick preventive, microchipped, and temperament tested. We also strive to crate and house train each dog before placement.
