Drake is a beautiful 10 year old male purebred red and white border collie. He came to rescue after his owner had to be placed into an assisted living facility. He is currently looking for a permanent place to call home. He is a beautiful example of the breed, and despite his age, he can keep up with a daily exercise routine. He needs a moderate amount of exercise but more to keep his mind busy than because he is too active. He is completely house trained, crate trained, and once he became comfortable at his foster home, he has a reliable recall. In addition, he knows sit, down, stay and wait and will ride quietly in the car. He does have a moderate herding instinct and does well with our cats, but they are not afraid of him and he occasionally plays rough with them.
He is currently living with 2 cats, 4 other dogs, and 2 ponies and does well with everyone. He has been to the dog park and has done well. However, because Drake spent the majority of his life alone with an elderly woman, he is still learning the ropes of being a good citizen. He will be happy to come and lay his head in your lap, but he prefers it be on his terms. He needs a home with an experienced dog owner who will be willing to work with his strong will and teach him what is expected of him. He would prefer to be an only dog or live with a female dog. Drake does well with all, but does show a tendency for preferring men (although he currently lives with two women and does great.) He is not suitable for a home with small children.

Prior to or upon adoption, all dogs in our rescue program are spayed/neutered (there are NO exceptions), fully vaccinated, heartworm negative, started on heartworm prevention, treated with flea and tick preventive, microchipped, and temperament tested. We also strive to crate and house train each dog before placement.
